The gel can be re-used by cleaning off containment (such as dust) with water. Mild detergent can also be used to wash away oily residues. Once dried the gel will regain its adhesiveness. My first heli: A honeybee CP2 in June 2007
Birds flown: Honeybee CP2 - ZOOM 450EP - MINI TITAN E325 - TREX 450SE V2 - TREX 600N (not mine, but flew it a lot). Currently I only own/fly the Mini Titan)
Competition history: none yet, I wish to be really good when I participate and completely confident with almost every stunt I'm still practicing.
Setup/upgrades: Sonix silver CNC upgrades TTE-14&15, TTE-32 tail servo mount, TTE-01 center hub, TTE-456 flybar control set, PV0815 Metal tail, green
paddles, Scorpion HK-2221-8 motor, stock ACE BLC-40 ESC, 3x Hitec HS-65MG servo, tail: Futaba s9257 with the GY-401, Spektrum DX7 with the AR7000 receiver, main blades Align pro woodies 325 or Align CF 3K white blades, LiPo: FP EVO25 2170mAh 3S1p & Zippy 2200mAh 20C with deans connectors.

Special recommendations:

For awesome power program you ACE BLC-40 ESC like this, but be careful and time your flights well:
Battery protection: OFF (+5V cut-off protection for Ni-Mh/Ni-CD
Motor timing: HARD
Brake mode: No brake
Throttle Sensitivity: Quick response
Flying mode: Helicopter mode WITHOUT GOVERNOR

Remove the PV0752 tail support for easier tail removal and less weight. It only brakes in a crash and I think the tail boom is strong enough on it's own.

The Sonix upgrades and hitec servo's proved to be really tough, saving plenty of cash in some hard crashes.

Don't cheap out on the tail servo and gyro. If the tail isn't steady due to this, flying will be much more difficult and you will probably crash due to this.
My flying skills also improved quite faster short after adding a good tail combo, specially in combination with the Sonix tail upgrades and servo mount. The GY401 is quite easy to setup and works great with the S9257 servo. As your flying skills advance you may need a spartan ds760 for better piro's.

Really take you time setting up you bird, and ask for good help if you can.

Buy more than one LiPo. You will probably rush less thanks to more flight time per session resulting in less crashes costing more than a decent LiPo. It will
also be less likely for you to fastcharge your LiPo's, so they wil last longer and perform better.
